1957 Original Paint Volkswagen Transporter Bus Survivor
In May of 2015, we found out about a rare 1957 Volkswagen Transporter Bus in Alaska. What intrigued us enough to go all the way to Alaska for this project was that it still had its original paint, which is a big deal to many vintage automobile enthusiasts.
Beyond being in original paint, it also had clean rocker panels without any rust rot, and the interior cargo floors were in great shape as well.
As you would expect the Bus had its share of dents, bruises, and scratches, but for an incredible find like this...they just added character. The Bus came with all the original interior panels and quality seat frames. All that was done to the interior was replacing the headliner, and we added new seat upholstery to the original seat frames.
For the running gear, we rebuilt the 36hp motor and replaced all the soft lines and brakes and it drove just like it did the day it rolled off the assembly line.
All the electrical was gone through and brought to perfect working order. Original bubble 57 taillights and the Hella third brake light looked great and light up with power from the original six-volt electronic system.
The Bus is one of the rarest finds our shop has ever had the privilege of bringing back to life using a subtle touch of restoration just where it was needed.
After putting this Bus back on the market, it sold almost immediately to a couple from Europe that was looking for this exact type of saved original classic VW.
